DRIVE SMART® Virginia Announces New Employees

DRIVE SMART® Virginia, a statewide non-profit organization which promotes safe roads and safe driving options in Virginia, is pleased to announce the addition of two new employees:

  • Gail Merridew – Grants and Operations Coordinator
  • Rob Richardson – Public Relations and Outreach Manager

Gail Merridew joins DRIVE SMART® Virginia as their Grants and Operations Coordinator. After a 22-year career in banking and financial services, she entered public service in 1997. Since that time she has obtained her Master of Public Administration, specializing in Non-profit Management. In 2003, Gail started a management consulting firm which helped small to medium-sized non-profits with various capacity-building initiatives. It is her technical, financial and administrative skills that Gail believes will be most useful in her role at DSV. Gail shares, “I want to do everything I can to keep the ‘back office’ operation of the organization moving efficiently and professionally so that our program staff can be as effective as possible in their outreach, education and advocacy across the state.” Gail lives in Henrico County with her husband. They have one son.

Rob Richardson joins DRIVE SMART® Virginia as Public Relations and Outreach Manager. Rob has more than 15 years of experience in Broadcast Journalism working in Nebraska and Lynchburg and Richmond, Virginia. Most recently Rob covered Henrico and Hanover county and the Virginia General Assembly for NBC-12. “Helping people stay safe on Virginia’s roadways is something I’ve been passionate about for a long time and I’ll work every day trying to make a difference.” Rob holds a Journalism degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He lives in Chesterfield County, Virginia with his wife and son.

In announcing these new additions to the DRIVE SMART® team, DSV’s Executive Director Janet Brooking said, “Gail and Rob will help complement an already strong team of talented employees dedicated to reducing traffic crashes and deaths on Virginia’s roads.”

DRIVE SMART® Virginia, founded in 1995, is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to educating drivers and raising traffic safety awareness in order to save lives and reduce injuries on the roadways of Virginia.
